Maker Elisabetta Cichellero, well done!
Nestled between the Venice lagoon and the Carnic Alps, in the province of Pordenone, the lush vineyards of this family-run estate bear witness to the long family tradition of over 200 years of passionate effort and endless love. The symbol of the stone pine presented on each bottle, the tree - used by ancestors for the development of boats and palaces - highlights the family's highest respect for the rich fertility of the surroundings, as also officially recognized by the Italian Certificate of Sustainability (SQNPI) obtained in recognition of the viticultural techniques of integrated pest management adopted and for the respect for the environment demonstrated. They have always taken care of their vineyards with great passion and love, so that their vines grow healthy, to produce grapes of great quality and wines with a strong personality.

2020 Dm. de Nerleux Saumur Champigny

Grape: Cabernet Franc
Region: Saumur, France
Retail: $25

As a testimony of the times when the wolf was an animal roaming our countryside, Nerleux means “Black Wolves” in old French. On the estate of the Domaine de Nerleux, wolves made way a long time ago for the vines and the noise of the clippers replaced the howling. The nobility of the wolves and men alike left a lasting impression on the estate, its terroir and then its wines.

In total, nine generations of winemakers succeeded each other until Amélie, the first woman of this lineage, took over. Hers is a legacy marked by strong values such as exchange, togetherness, a commitment to the community as well as the everlasting passion to be the best to exalt the appellations of the Vins de Saumur

2023 Dm. Arbeau l'Alignement des Planets

Region: Fronton, France
Retail: $22

Oooh, this wine makes me happy.

Maker Anne Arbeau, the fourth generation to run their family’s wine business, based in Fronton at the Château Coutinel. The vines grow in sandy silt and gravel, farmed under organics (Ecocert certified since 2021). Anne says their goal is to produce vins de soif, so they bottle this with minimal aging, to preserve the fresh fruit in bottle. Rather than wait to release the wine until the IGP panel has approved it, they choose to bottle it as Vin de France. “Indeed,” says Anne Arbeau, “in France we have a lot of AOP, a lot of IGP, and even most French people don’t know where they are. So, we think that Vin de France is easier to understand.”

Drinking & pairing ideas: Seared duck breast and grilled maitake
